Mention the Triangle region of the state and many think of Research Triangle Park. A good response, but educators remind us that another jewel in the region’s crown is the rich educational system in the region formed by the geographic points of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The choices are many from K-12 public schools to public and private colleges and universities.

The Triangle Area Schools and Education

For many newcomers, choosing a new home, a new bank, and a new physician are all at the top of the to-do list when relocating. Perhaps the most important choice, however, and for good reason, is choosing a school for the kids. You will have a wealth of options to choose from in the Triangle, as the area boasts some of the top independent schools in the state.

 

“Families considering an independent school should look for a school that matches their core values, goals and desires for their children,” said Teresa Wilson, director of admissions for St. David’s School in Raleigh. “They should look for environment where their student would be comfortable socially, challenged academically and involved in all aspects of school life, including arts and athletics. Finding the right fit will encourage the whole family to become active members of the school community.”

 

According to Gail Murphy, head administrator of Cresset Christian Academy in Durham, there are several questions families should ask before enrolling their child in an independent school.

 

“There are several important factors that parents need to consider when deciding on a school for their children,” Murphy said. “I believe the most important thing is to choose a school that shares the same values and beliefs that we have as parents.”
