Johston and South Wake County Schools

As you will soon discover, the North Carolina counties of Johnston and Wake offer a wealth of educational opportunities that contribute greatly to the quality of life enjoyed by residents.

There are world-renowned research universities, large community colleges, highly ranked public school systems, and quality independent schools that make obtaining a valuable, well-rounded education possible.

A new and exciting venture in Johnston County is the Partnership for Children of Johnston County. The Partnership for Children administers local “Smart Start” and “More at Four” funds in Johnston County along with private donations to provide programs and services for families and young children in Johnston County. The Partnership’s mission is to improve the health, education and emotional well being of Johnston County children.

“The Partnership for Children of Johnston County supports parents and early childhood educators to ensure that children have access to quality early childhood experiences,” said Karen Mills, program coordinator for the Partnership. “Together, we work with community partners to improve the economic sustainability of Johnston County by ensuring that its future workforce is prepared for success in school and life.”

Also, the Partnership promotes young children’s healthy development and school readiness, which are shown to decrease high school dropout rates, lower crime rates, and reduce the need for school remediation.

“All of these are key components to developing a stronger workforce for our growing community,” said Mills, who also pointed to the fact that the Partnership is a state-funded program and many of its services are available without regard to income. “Research shows that 85 percent of a child’s intellect is developed by the age of 3. The early years play a crucial role in preparing children for kindergarten.”

Programs like the Partnership for Children of Johnston County help make the area’s educational offerings so exceptional. Below is a closer look at a few of the educational institutions that serve both Johnston and Wake counties.
