Cape Fear Outdoor Recreation
One thing you’ll quickly learn about the Cape Fear region is that it is truly a recreational haven. From boating and fishing on the Intracoastal Waterway, to frolicking in the Atlantic Ocean or playing Frisbee on the pristine beaches, to participating in local recreational activities, the region is the complete package.
If you prefer hiking, biking, birdwatching, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and camping, the region offers many state parks.
The region is also home to several arboretums and gardens; Wilmington’s Battleship North Carolina; Kure Beach’s Fort Fisher, which features educational exhibits and showcases photos and Civil War battle maps; the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, and several lighthouses in Southport, Oak Island, and Bald Head Island. Plus, the region offers a variety of educational museums that focus on local history, railroads, history and science, and art.
