Retirement Housing in The Triangle
As you might have heard, the Triangle e is one of the best places in which to live in country. Countless publications have listed the area, and the cities that make it up, in their “best of” lists for years.
As a retiree, some of the amenities that you are looking for in an area include quality healthcare, lots of entertainment options, a favorable climate, and affordability. Well, look no further than the Triangle for all of these perks and more. As many have come to find out, the Triangle might well be a retirees’ dream relocation destination. With only two-hour drive to the coast and a three-hour to the mountains, the old real estate adage, “location, location, location” definitely rings true for the region.
“The main consideration when looking into retirement housing options is location,” said Rebecca Smith, director of sales and marketing for Magnolia Glen Senior Living in Raleigh. “Typically, seniors choose to move closer to a daughter or son and want to be as close to them as possible. My experience in nearly 12 years has shown that older adults typically settle within 5 to 10 miles from their family so they can be as involved as possible in their lives.
“Once the desirable location is identified, the most important features to consider are very individual. I encourage folks to find a community that most closely matches their likes and dislikes. For example, if one has been doing water aerobics for 10 years and it’s still very important to them, than it makes sense to look for a community that not only has a pool but a structured water aerobic program. It’s also important to look at the existing resident population at each community and assess whether you would feel comfortable there and if you would ‘fit it’ relatively easily.”
One Triangle retirement community that is worth checking into is Magnolia Glen Senior Living. Nestled on 12 wooded acres in Raleigh, Magnolia Glen is a relatively new community located only one mile from Crabtree Valley Mall and Interstate 440, and approximately five minutes from the North Carolina Museum of Art, Rex Hospital, a medical park, and the shops and restaurants of Cameron Village. For added convenience, RDU International Airport is 15 minutes away.
The community backs up to the Brookhaven Nature Park, and features picturesque walking paths that lead into the park. In addition to its main building, it features spacious cottages. For recreation and well being, Magnolia Glen has a full-time wellness director, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, and a heated indoor swimming pool.
“We are the only rental independent living community in Raleigh that has cottage homes that are detached from the main building and have a licensed assisted living community, which makes for easier transitions when more services are necessary,” Smith said. “Our community design is very unique; the architecture was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and therefore boasts a lot of natural light, stained glass, mission, and arts and crafts style decorating.
“We back up to Brookhaven nature park, which also adds a very unique feeling and flare to our community. Our wellness philosophy is woven throughout the fabric of our operations and culture and can be seen in the way our daily programs are offered.”
According to Magnolia Glen’s Web site, the staff is warm and caring. The facility is a month-to-month rental community, so it commits each day to earn your loyalty, make you feel special, and exceed your expectations.
Some of the features of the Magnolia Glen Community include: formal dining room, beauty salon, heated indoor pool, computer center, library, Health Strides Wellness Program, nature park with walking trials, and recreation rooms. Apartment features include flexible meal plans, kitchen or kitchenette, large windows, emergency call system, individual climate control, private bathroom, and housekeeping and laundry services.
According to Smith, the Triangle is an excellent choice for retirees for a number of reasons. “Assuming you have family already living here, that’s a big driver. Another is the great weather,” she said. “On a wider scheme, we are just a few hours from the mountains and the coast which makes our area very appealing.”
