The fastest growing region in South Carolina, comprised of the cities of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and others, are collectively known as the Upstate. Strategically positioned between Atlanta and Charlotte, the cities each offer a unique contribution to the region. Michelin is located in downtown Greenville, and Milliken & Co. has its global headquarters in Spartanburg. It is one of the largest employers in the region with approximately 7,000 employees. Financial services, technology, manufacturing, retail and hospitality industries are also thriving industries in the Upstate region.
Upstate healthcare covers every need. Mary Black Memorial Hospital, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare, Greenville Memorial and Greer Memorial offer convenience and excellent medical care for residents.
Higher education in the Upstate region fits every need and interest with two year or four-year degrees, technical degrees and work place programs. Converse College, an all-female college, Clemson, the University of South Carolina Upstate, Greenville Community College, Spartanburg Community College, Wofford College, Bob Jones University, Furman University, and Piedmont Technical College are some of the choices available to students.
