The Upstate Communities
The Upstate region of South Carolina has much to offer the newcomer, including a relatively stable, diversified economy, a bevy of educational and career opportunities, easily accessible healthcare, affordable real estate, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States.
Located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the Upstate is flanked by up-and-coming cities like Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Greer. The surrounding smaller cities and towns only add to the region’s appeal as many offer big-city amenities in small-town packages. Many visitors and prospective homeowners come to fall in love with this region that manages to maintain its slower pace of life while affording access to a diversified and stable economy.
“The Upstate is an irresistible part of the country for people of all ages, whether you’re going to college, starting a family, looking for a business or professional opportunity, or entering retirement,” said Dr. Leonard Kupersmith, headmaster of Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville. “The Upstate of South Carolina is a beautiful, progressive community with excellent public services, diverse educational choices, rich cultural benefits, racial and ethnic diversity, a multitude of recreational options, and a can-do spirit.”
According to Census reports, the Upstate is the fastest growing region in South Carolina with a recent estimate of more than 1.3 million residents. Although no official lines are drawn, the Upstate includes the major cities of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Easley, Greenwood, Greer, Mauldin, Taylors, Wade Hampton, Clemson, Gaffney and Simpsonville. There are many other smaller surrounding towns and communities that also afford an excellent quality of life.
