When you move to a new area, one of the first things you should find out is where the hospitals are located. Then you should find a physician who will meet your healthcare needs, especially before you require his or her services. Below is a listing of just some of the quality specialty healthcare facilities in the Triad area.
Cornerstone Health Care
With over 200 physicians and physician extenders (physician assistants and nurse practitioners) and over 1,000 employees, Cornerstone Health Care serves approximately 120,000 patients each year, said Page Redpath, public affairs officer for Cornerstone. Cornerstone practices are located across the Piedmont Triad in High Point, Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Thomasville, Jamestown, Asheboro, Archdale and Trinity. Cornerstone is a multidisciplinary physician group, representing almost every specialty from family practice and internal medicine to cardiology, neurology and orthopaedics and sports medicine. Cornerstone is building two new outpatient facilities, one on Westchester Drive in High Point which will open in October 2008. Another facility, built in partnership with High Point Regional Health System, located at the corner of Premier and Wendover Drive in north High Point, will open in mid-2009.
Eagle Physicians and Associates
Eagle Physicians and Associates is an independent, physician-owned, Greensboro-based, multi-specialty group practice.
“There are 70 Eagle physicians in a variety of specialties, plus 14 nurse practitioners and physician assistants and 370 support staff at 11 different medical offices located throughout the Greensboro area,” said Lentz.
Eagle’s specialties include family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology, and urgent care medicine.
To improve Eagle’s ability to see patients more promptly, Eagle increased the number of physicians and specialties available in its group practice. Eagle has also opened or has expanded medical office facilities in Lake Jeanette, Guilford College, Triad, Brassfield, Oak Ridge, Tannenbaum, and Adams Farm, said Lentz.
Kernodle Clinic
Approximately 61,200 people are served each year at the Kernodle Clinic, which currently consists of 48 doctors and 269 employees, said Reneé W. Addertion, assistant to the administrator at the Kernodle Clinic, which offers many specialties, including family practice, pediatrics, cardiology, internal medicine, podiatry, OB/GYN, acute care, rheumatology, surgery, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and neurology.
The Kernodle Clinic will broaden its offering with planned projects to expand the orthopedics, internal medicine, cardiology, pediatric, acute care, and neurology departments, said Addertion.
Novant Medical Group
Consisting of 800 healthcare providers at practice sites across the Triad and the Carolinas, Novant Medical Group sees an estimated 3 million patient visits each year.
“Novant Medical Group is dedicated to improving the health of communities, one person at a time,” said McDowall. “We are affiliated with Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem and are a part of Novant Health, a not-for profit healthcare leader.”
Novant Medical Group’s specialties include urology, cardiology, neurology, radiology and imaging services, occupational health, orthopaedics, pediatrics, endocrinology, internal medicine, family practice, rheumatology and arthritis, sleep medicine, and urgent care.
To meet the current and future demands of growth, Novant Medical Group has added five new practices and 25 new physicians in the Triad area in the first 10 months of 2007, and it plans to add more within the next year, said McDowall.
Piedmont Healthcare for Women
Piedmont Healthcare for Women consists of four divisions that all focus on OB/GYN health issues, such as gynecology, pregnancy, high-risk pregnancy, and labor and delivery.
The four divisions include Green Valley OB/GYN, which has seven doctors and one physician’s assistant; Physicians for Women, which has seven doctors and one nurse practitioner; Greensboro OB/GYN, which has four doctors and one nurse practitioner; and Central Carolina OB & GYN, which has five doctors, five midwives, and two nurse practitioners. Central Carolina is the only practice in Greensboro that offers midwifery, said Ed Atkinson, administrator for Piedmont Healthcare for Women.
WFUBMC Community Physicians
Effective July 1, 2007, Aegis Family Health Centers formally changed its name to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) Community Physicians.
“This name change was made to more closely link us to the Medical Center, which is nationally ranked and has more than 500 physicians with expertise in more than 100 areas of medicine, from preventive care to the most specialized care,” said Linda Amazon, director of Human Resources for WFUBC Community Physicians, which currently has more than 45 health care providers in practices located throughout Northwest North Carolina and continues to grow.
“Our newest practices are in Clemmons and Advance areas, where we found there was a significant need for quality primary care,” said Amazon. “We are currently constructing two state-of-the-art facilities in these communities and will be providing same-day appointments for patients with urgent needs as well as some extended hours to better accommodate the busy schedules of our patients.”
Hospital officials also expect to open new practices in other communities south and northwest of Winston Salem in 2008, said Amazon.
“We are also supporting North Carolina Baptist Hospital in their efforts to construct the new Davie Hospital in Advance,” she added.
