 DURHAM, N.C. — The Research Triangle is leading North Carolina’s economic recovery as the region generated 36,447 net new jobs in 2012.

The job growth was both rural and urban and spanned across a number of industries in each of the 13-counties making up the region, according figures released this morning by the Research Triangle Regional Partnership. The Research Triangle’s job gains were three times higher than any other region in North Carolina.

Meanwhile, unemployment in the region last year fell to 8.1 percent and it continues to decline; by the end of the first quarter of this year, unemployment in the Research Triangle region was down to 7.5 percent. Layoffs in 2012 were just 1,984, lower than any year since 1990. Read more ›

Nimble Storage, a fast-growing developer of storage technology based on flash solutions that is backed by major venture capital firms to the tune of nearly $100 million, has opened an office in RTP.

And the company is hiring.

The operation is the first on the East Coast for Nimble, which is based in Silicon Valley. It manufactures storage arrays equipped with proprietary software. Read more ›

 DURHAM -- Research Triangle Foundation CEO Bob Geolas gave city and county leaders the big-picture plan for Research Triangle Park on Wednesday, with the details yet to be determined.

The plan calls for making the 53-year-old research park over in 21st-century style, with dense development around mass-transit stations, including stores, restaurants and homes alongside offices and laboratories.

“We want to make sure we keep the park at a position where we can adapt and change to all the growing industry and research demands that we may see,” Geolas told Durham’s Joint City-County Planning Committee. Read more ›

 DURHAM, N.C. — Job seekers will have a chance to be pitched themselves when prospective employers talk about their firms and positions they are seeking to fill at the "Tech Jobs Under the Big Top" event.

Some 75 jobs are expected to be available from 12 companies at the reverse job fair, which is set for Oct. 11 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the American Tobacco Historic District's Bay 7 venue in Durham.
