A Michigan-based communications company has announced it will be hiring for 75 new cable/Internet installation technician positions in the Greenville-Spartanburg area.

Aero Communications Inc. (ACI) will host two job fair sessions from 8 a.m. to noon and again from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Greenville Holiday Inn at I-85 and Woodruff Road.

The company said it already has 44 technicians in the Upstate. The decision to more than double its operations in the area is due to rapid growth of the cable/Internet industry and the availability of qualified workers. Read more ›

A lumber products company plans to locate a new facility in Cherokee County, a $9.8 million investment that is expected to create 28 jobs.

Associated Hardwoods plans to open a saw mill that will process timber logs for shipment to the company's Granite Falls, N.C., location for more processing, according to a written statement from the S.C. Department of Commerce.

 A state report released Friday shows that the Wilmington area's unemployment rate dropped by more than a percentage point in September.

But some experts said it happened for the wrong reasons. And it may mask deeper problems in the Port City's labor market, said Allan M. Freyer, public policy analyst for the N.C. Budget & Tax Center of the N.C. Justice Center.

The jobless rate shrank to 9.3 percent in September from 10.4 percent in September 2011, according to the N.C. Division of Employment Security.
